Presentation
The focus of the subject matter is global, with a view to both national activities and the international setting. The programme combines a view of conceptual frameworks and oral presentations, solving practical cases and business games. All the simulations are based on real situations and are developed through team work. In addition, the final individual project allows students to put all their acquired knowledge into practice.
On this master there is a very close link with the world of banking and finance. Participants without experience have the opportunity of completing a six-month internship with financial institutions, with the aim of learning about and experiencing the reality of this sector.
The Master in Banking and Finance offers you an extensive and complete programme. Upon completion of the course you will have acquired concepts, knowledge and skills which will put you in the best position to develop your professional career in a credit business.
You will therefore be able to:
• Make decisions in each situation by evaluating profitability and risk,
• Relate the economic and financial setting to banking strategies,
• Assess investors in their operations,
• Have a global vision of the banking business, starting with a traditional bank and moving on to specialized or private banking,
• Gain basic notions of taxation in order to manage a heritage,
• Learn about commercial marketing and control policies used by credit enterprises,
• Learn about the legal banking sector,
The programme guarantees you in-depth knowledge of the characteristics and functioning of the products and institutions which make up national and international financial markets. In this way, you will become familiar with both the classic offer and also a wide range of new instruments, services and financial derivates.
The Master in Banking and Finance also allows you to:
• acquire the knowledge to take as an independent candidate the International Certificate in Financial Advice (ICFA), which is awarded by the Securities & Investments Institute, London.
• acquire the knowledge to take as an independent candidate the European Financial Advisor (EFA) examination from the European Financial Planning Association (EFPA), which is a financial advice qualification.

Requirements / Application
Admission requirements
Higher university degree o bachelor's degree awarded by the university.
In both cases other candidates without the required university qualifications can also apply subject to their professional academic merits and current position.
Registration process
1. Procedure:
• Complete the online admissions form.
• Pay an enrolment fee of 120 € which will be returned to you if your application is unsuccessful.
• Send your curriculum vitae, university qualification, ID or Passport, passport size photograph in JPG format to docs@idec.upf.edu in order to take part in the selection process.
• Send two letters of recommendation.
• Send a letter of incentive.
• Personal or telephone interview with the Course Directors.
2. Admission
• IDEC and the academic staff for the program will select candidates via personal or curricular interviews.
• Notice of acceptance on to the program will be given in writing.
3. Registration
1. Once you have received a letter of acceptance on to the program and before the beginning of the course you must present the following documentation:
- 1. Stamped or approved university qualification
- 2. Academic Record in case of Foreign Studies
2. Payment of fees. You can pay fees in the following ways:
- By cash
- By check
- By credit card
- By bank draft, in which case you must send a copy as proof of payment by e-mail to docs@idec.upf.edu or fax to +34 93 542 18 05, indicating the code number -1036- of the course and the name of the participant. |

Potential candidates
The Master in Banking and Finance (MBF) is studied by professionals from both national and international banking entities who are working in:
• credit entities (banks, savings banks and credit co-operatives),
• Insurance companies,
• business investment companies (agencies and securities and stock market firms, portfolio management companies and group investment companies).
It is also aimed at degree holders without experience who would like to start out in the job market. |
